“Ukiyoe” was a leading mass media form in the Edo period and was hugely popular in Japan.
With “【Luxiem Ukiyoe】 Ukiyoe,” the traditional art technique of “Ukiyoe” meets “modern” VTuber culture to create a new expression.
“【Luxiem Ukiyoe】 Ukiyoe” conveys the elegance of the Edo period and features dignified portraits of the three Luxiem members.
The Japanese washi paper used for these prints is the highest grade “Echizen Namekoshi Hosho paper”, handmade by the Living National Treasure Iwano Ichibei.
This handmade Japanese paper, crafted through a painstaking, labor intensive process, represents the origins of Japanese paper. Its production method, a hallmark of Echizen paper, is designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property of Japan.
The carving and printing are done entirely by hand using traditional Edo period techniques, with pure hand carving and hand printing.
Each artisan belongs to the Ukiyoe Woodblock Engraving and Printmaking Techniques Preservation Society, certified under Article 83 of the Cultural Properties Protection Law.
The woodblock print production techniques of these carvers and printers are designated as “Important Selected Preservation Techniques for Folk Cultural Properties” under the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Protection Law.
